Delightful Delectables- Mini Gingerbread Cocoa Buddies

by Maggie Kelleher

I’ve been in the Christmas spirit this week. And in combination with some free time to craft to my hearts desire, that spirit has turned into quite a fun and adorable little craft.

These tiny gingerbread houses are cute in their own right, but with strategically placed doors they are turned into mug-topping hot chocolate houses, or as I like to call them, cocoa-buddies.

A Tasteful Thanksgiving- Decor for the Time-Pressed

by Maggie Kelleher

Who's ready for Thanksgiving? I am! The Winter Holidays and their gorgeously decorated family parties are my absolute favorite! Just looking at this table setting is making me excited!

But as much as I love the look of the holidays and creating table settings, like this one, that make guests say "WOW!" I don't have the time to spend hours on the non-food aspects of holiday parties. Who does, with turkeys to roast/fry/or otherwise cook to your heart's desire?

http://www.thesweetestoccasion.com/2013/11/celebrating-friendsgiving/

In addition to making your life easier with My Grandma's (cakes that will *WOW* without the work) we have pulled together some of our favorite quick and easy Thanksgiving decoration ideas for all time-constraints and budgets!

Delicious Delectables- Airy Cinnamon Pumpkin Butter

by Maggie Kelleher

Lately, chocolate has been on my mind. I've been wearing lots of Fall colors and wool layers and thinking about sitting in front of the fireplace back home with a cup of hot cocoa. Now since cocoa tastes nowhere near as good when not paired with a roaring fire, I've been thinking of ways to get my Fall chocolate fix elsewhere. And have I found it!

Autumn Adventures- Halloween Scare Package

by Maggie Kelleher

Today I had a little free time and a small task to do.

The other day I found a product that I knew would be the perfect gift for my little sister. Just another one of my Fall Favorites!

A little about my sister.. my freshman year, I bought her ninja cookie cutters for her birthday, and she sent me a care package of home-made ninja-bread cookies. Well now it's her freshmen year, and I have found the perfect follow up gift... zombie cookie cutters! I just had to send them, and instead of just a box in a box, a full care package was in order!

Back to the point, today I had the task of sending my sister the Halloween fun I bought her, but I had a bit of free time, so I decided to decorate the box and give her a whole Halloween treat!

Delicious Delectables- Lemon Curd Coffee Cake

by Maggie Kelleher

I discovered a new dessert topping! I don't know if you are aware of the power of lemon curd, but I was blissfully naive about this delicious topping until very recently.

Last week I found myself sitting around trying to decide what I should blog about next when I thought it might be fun to get some new opinions in the conversation, and boy was that a good idea! Quite a few ideas were raised (that you will be seeing soon on this blog), but one idea made my friend Sankalp SO excited that I had no choice but to help him make it come to life. What was this idea?

Lemon curd and coffee cake!

"Lemon curd" you say? "That won't go well with coffee cake!" Well when I started this I have to say that I had my doubts, too. But I trusted in Sankalp's judgement, and boy did it pay off!

Students Tell All- Care Package Confidential

by Maggie Kelleher

We know no week is complete without some words from My Grandma's, so we are here to feed your coffee cake needs. (But seriously! We are giving away a free cake that can actually feed you!)

Today we wanted to talk about care packages again, but in a bit of a different way. As Autumn has slipped upon us schools have been reopening all over the world. You might even say that this year's college freshmen are starting to get the hang of college!

As they do, they are realizing the differences between college and home and starting to crave a few things. Care packages are often the best way to fill those cravings, and so instead of just telling you what I think your students might want, I am going to let them tell you themselves!

I asked a few of my (and My Grandma's) freshmen friends to tell you what they would want to find in their ideal care package while eating My Grandma's New England Blueberry Coffee Cake. Enjoy!

Tea Tray Time

by Maggie Kelleher

What do you like to drink with your coffee cake? Tea? Coffee? Water? Chocolate milk?

My favorite might just be tea (or maybe that's just because I am starting to feel a cold coming on). And I decided this weekend to make something to make my tea-drinking experience easier and more fun. What I love about this project, though, is that it could be used for any of the above drinks or just about anything at all.

Charming Crafts- Simple Ribbon Cake Topper

by Maggie Kelleher

This may be just a bit late, but we at My Grandma’s have had so many things to blog about lately that we have been holding off on this. But the wait is over; today I am going to show you how I made the adorable cake topper featured in our recent Instagram birthday video. Don’t have an Instagram or just don’t follow us? No problem, I’ve also added the video below! Though I do have to say we are loving our recent introduction to Instagram, and definitely suggest that you check it out!

One of the little things I did to give our wonderful Latonya’s birthday and this video a little extra pizzazz was to make that little cake topper you see in the video.

College Is Cake- How To Help Your College Student Thrive This Year

by Maggie Kelleher

As August is getting underway, we have been thinking of ways to stay connected with your friends/children/grandchildren/siblings who are off to college this year, because we think keeping that family connection is such an important factor in helping your college student thrive at school.

Many of us know that college can be a busy and sometimes difficult time. Believe me, I do! As a freshman RA (Resident Advisor) I have definitely encountered my fair share of homesickness and just plain stress, from freshman to seniors.

As I and many others are heading back to school soon, I thought it might be a good time to look into how to stay connected with your college student and support them from afar.

Coffee Cake Balls- Making Coffee Cake A Finger Food

by Maggie Kelleher

Ever wanted to try a few different sauces with your cake? How about fulfilling the kids' sugar cravings in a (relatively) mess-free way? Or are you just looking for a way to eat cake as a mini snack? Try this idea on for size!

What do you know about cake balls? We don't know much. We are in the coffee cake business, after all, and coffee cake balls are not a widespread concept... yet! But despite our lack of knowledge I decided to give it a try, and enlisted my ten year old cousin Conna to help. Say "Hi" to Conna!

Flavorful Fundamentals- All About Walnuts!

by Maggie Kelleher

Do you like walnuts? We here at My Grandma's definitely do. We put walnuts in many of the cakes we make! Luckily for those of you saying "ewww" to the idea of walnuts, it is also possible to special order any of our cakes without walnuts if you so choose, but this particular post might not be for you.

Why not?

A delicious walnut and streusel ribbon runs through the center of our Cinnamon Walnut Coffee Cake.

Because this post is all about walnuts and the amazing things they do!

Charming Crafts - Tin-talizing Garden Light

by Maggie Kelleher

Hi everyone! The Summer has gotten hold of my imagination, what about you? Something about sunshine and warm nights makes everything feel better! And to spice up those warm Summer nights I decided to try my hand at a My Grandma's craft this weekend. Let me know what you think!

I was inspired by a craft I saw on Pinterest by Crafts By Photo, and decided to give it a My Grandma's twist.

A cake tin is always so cute, and sometimes you just don't want to get rid of it, whether it has our logo or your pictures on it (did you know that you can order a personalized My Grandma's cake tin?!) But a pile of cake tins isn't very useful to anybody, so why not re-purpose them into something special?

By now you might know that I had a little coffee cake photo shoot with some friends in prom dresses last week, and they were the judges in a battle between peanut butter and jelly. Okay, it was between peanut butter sauce and berry sauce, but it's in that realm.

Anyways, I already posted the recipe for the delicious Easy-Does-It Berry Sauce and today I am going to share with you how to make the peanut butter sauce, so you can host round two of this battle yourself.

Delightful Delectables- Easy-Does-It Berry Sauce, The Foolproof Fruity Topping

by Maggie Kelleher

If you saw our most recent blog post, "Let Them Eat Coffee Cake- My Grandma's Is Perfect For Tea Time & Beyond," then you know that my sister hosted a formal tea-party for some of her friends last weekend, and we had a photo shoot and some delicious cake!

I promised the recipes to the sauces I made to complement an amazing My Grandma's Ted Williams Chocolate Cake, so here is... drumroll please...

The Easy-Does-It Berry Sauce Recipe!

Let Them Eat Coffee Cake- My Grandma's Is Perfect For Tea Time & Beyond

by Maggie Kelleher

I had a bit of an adventure this weekend. My little sister's friends came over for a coffee cake tea party, and knowing that I run this blog, they decided to make it a formal affair. No one can deny that high school seniors know how to create dramatic effect and take the time to enjoy their summer!

So bring on the prom dresses, because these girls dressed up in high-style for My Grandma's of New England.

by Maggie Kelleher

Some might think that coffee cake is reserved only for mornings, coffee breaks, or bridge parties, and served plain (or slightly warmed) with the beverage of your choice.

I might disagree. I already know that My Grandma's coffee cakes are good anytime, day or night. But I can not disagree that a coffee cake breakfast is one of the best types of breakfast you can serve up.

Delightful Delectables- Pumpkin Spice Is Ready For Summer

by Maggie Kelleher

Coffee cake. It conjures up images of a December morning snuggle by the fireplace with a steaming cup of coffee, doesn't it? That's all I thought coffee cake was good for too, until I was introduced to My Grandma's of New England.

In my first week as the new Social Media Intern at My Grandma's I had a large 3 lb Pumpkin Spice coffee cake in my hands and no idea what to do with it. It was summer after all, how do I serve coffee cake in the summer? Luckily, my sister was graduating High School that weekend and we had family coming over, so I knew I had family to share it with. I started brainstorming.

Fun In The Summer Sun- Check Out Our Latest Father's Day "Pinspiration!"

Summer might not officially be here yet, but a lot of our favorite summer events have already started, from Memorial day to graduation parties, proms, and even the upcoming end of the school year. And just like any grandmother, we here at My Grandma's love any event where our families can come together!

If you follow us on social media, you may have seen our recent obsession with Father's Day. But we can't help it, we are just too excited about our new Super Dad coffee cake tin! But it is not just the tin. To us, Father's Day kicks off the season of barbecues, bonfires, beach days, and backyard games. Our family loves to come together, celebrate, and play as the summer heats up and we are itching to make some summer 2014 memories.
