This may be just a bit late, but we at My Grandma’s have had
so many things to blog about lately that we have been holding off on this. But
the wait is over; today I am going to show you how I made the adorable cake
topper featured in our recent Instagram birthday video. Don’t have an Instagram or just don’t follow us? No problem, I’ve also
added the video below! Though I do have to say we are loving our recent introduction to Instagram, and definitely suggest that you check it out!
One of the little things I did to give our wonderful Latonya’s
birthday and this video a little extra pizzazz was to make that little cake
topper you see in the video.
We know that our wonderful customers love to share our cakes
on birthdays, holidays, and family get-togethers, when a little style is always
welcome but time is short. This little project is super quick and easy (I did
it in 5 minutes in front of the tv) and is perfect for those events. Try it
yourself and tell us what you think!
Here’s how I did it:
You will need:
2 sticks of some sort (I pulled these from our s’mores
reserves)
12” of ribbon
A hot glue gun (Careful about burning yourself! Maybe not a
kid’s project.)
You will:
1. Cut sticks to the length you want (I very carefully used
some scissors and topped off the splintered ends with glue for style and
safety).
2. Cut a few inches off of the ribbon and tie it into a cute
little bow.
3. Take the rest of the ribbon and glue an end to each stick
(I wrapped each end and glued them again).
4. Play with how you want the ribbon to look! I eventually
decided to roll the sticks inward and loosely glued the ribbon to the sticks a
bit farther down to ensure staying power.
5. Glue the bow where you think it looks best.
6. Stick it in a cake and wait for the applause!
Disclaimer: if you’re using candles with this keep a close eye on it. We don't sell burnt cakes, it’d be a shame to end up with one anyway!
